La Casa que Canta is a small property of slightly over
2 hectares situated at an altitude of 4250 ft in Barrio Jesus, a quiet and secure part of
Santa Barbara de Heredia. There is a panoramic view over
San Jose to the mountains on the Southern side of the Central Valley. The airport and downtown
San Jose are some 20/30 minutes away and there is easy access to the highways leading to both,
the Pacific and Caribbean Coasts.
La Casa que Canta is a place to relax for a couple of days and to recuperate from the
fatigue of a long journey. It is home to more than 70 species of birds and mantains a wide variety
of fruit trees, orchids, ornamental plants and flowers. There is plenty of open space for picnics,
plus wooded areas, a river and a house in the 125 year old strangler tree. Guests are free to pick
all fruit available in season - oranges, lemons (sweet & bitter), limes, mangoes, avocados, grapefruit,
4 varieties of bananas, etc.
La Casa que Canta is an ideal base for visiting Costa Rica.
We will look after your excess baggage while you travel throughout the country knowing that when you return you will find your room or cotage clean and tidy and a warm meal or refreshing drink available at all times.
We will be happy to help you organise your excursions; be they day trips - horseback riding, white-watert rafting etc. Or more extensive expeditions - birdwatching, surfing, diving or fishing.
Five cottages and 2 rooms in the main house are available for rent.
The main house - Quetzal - is situated at the entrance and is comprised of two large bedrooms, each with a suite bathroom and toilet facilities, a spacious kitchen, pantry, living area and bar.
One of the bedrooms includes a large walk-in closet and the second a small office.
There is a direct access to a large BBQ deck.
Half way down the drive on the left is a cottage - Trogon - which can either be
a 2 bedroom cottage and a single bedroom cottage, or, as these are adjoining buildings, can be a three bedroom cottage.
However each unit has its own bathroom and toilet facilities, kitchen/dining area and there is a provate BBQ deck on the main building.
A small secluded, cottage - Motmot - that includes a small bedroom, bathroom/toilet, kitchen and eating
area and an outdoor terrace - is situaded at the bottom of the property close to the river.
In the centre of the property, overlooking the lush tropical greeney, are three adjacent cottages.
Toucan has 2 bedrooms and a covered terrace - Lapa Verde & Lapa Roja - are one beedroom units, one of which has a covered balcony.
Each cottage has its own separate bathroom and toilet, a kitchen and dining room.
All the habitations are fully equipped: beds, tables, chairs, cupboards, bed linen, bath linen, refrigerator, stove, toasterr, coffee maker, crockery, cutlery; hot and cold water, television, telephone and internet access.
There is a coverde garage for two cars, however ,there is space for cars in front of the cottages.
Satellite television is available in the main house.
There are two washing machines and a drying machine that are available to guests.
About food: At the bottom of the road (150 mts) there is a bus service (every 30 minutes) to either
Heredia or Sta. Barbara/ Alajuela.
Both of these towns have large supermarkets and all other commerces, and the Cariari Mall
is not far away.
We are 2 kms. from Sta. Barbara where there is all basic requirements; pharmacies, banks,
doctors.
Also next door to the property is a "pulperÍa" where you can usually find the item
that you have forgotten.
Close by is a Spanish restaurant "La Luna de Valencia", and just outside Sta. Barbara is
a sea food restaurant -"Bancos los Mariscos" - and also "El Galerón" a very friendly little
local restaurant.
Local taxi operators are always available and willing to do business.
A taxi from Santa Barbara to La Casa que Canta is just a dollar.
