On the Hotel property, you will find lush forests and verdant pastures that are excellent for birding and hiking. We maintain over a kilometer of nature trails. In this tranquil setting, you can often see parrots and toucans that come to feed in the wild fruit trees. During certain months, the Fonda Vela is an excellent place to see Resplendent Quetzals and Three-wattled Bellbirds. Two kilometers away is the world famous, 10,500-hectare (26,000 acres) Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. We can help you choose and book the local tours and attractions most suitable to your desires.
The Fonda Vela Hotel has nine buildings nestled in the beautifully landscaped property. Each is designed with natural lighting, privacy and warmth. All have large windows, with views of our forest, bringing the outside beauty into each luxurious, comfortable and cozy room.
Hotel Fonda Vela has two restaurants. The elegant and spacious Galleria seats 100, and has walls of large windows with beautiful, tropical views. Sometimes, cute, wild animals come to the windows to watch the diners!
The cozy Fireside Room seats 40 and is accentuated by the crackle and dancing flames of a wood-burning fireplace.
Terrace seating on the balcony offer views of the Gulf of Nicoya. The sunsets are truly beautiful.
ROOMS
Our hotel has 40 rooms in 9 separate buildings nestled in the landscape property, all are designed with natural lighting, privacy and warmth in mind.
All rooms have large windows with views of our forest allowing the outside beauty to be a part of a cozy interior.
All Junior suites have a small refrigerator, table, king and queen-size beds, a comfortable sofa and television. The standard rooms have private bath (with hot water) 2 queen-size beds or a king-size bed.
Telephones are available in all the rooms of the hotel. There are 20 Junior Suites and 20 standard rooms.

Monteverde Cloud Forest: A private biological reserve dedicated to the conservation of the rare flora and and fauna of this unique ecosystem. It is perfect for birdwatchers.
Horseback rinding tours: You will be able to see the area , the Gulf of Nicoya, waterfalls and the valley of San Luis with a local guide.
The Monteverde Cheese factory: They produce the tastiest cheese in Costa Rica. The cheese-making process can be witnessed through the observation window.
Santa Elena Rainforest Reserve: It offers beautiful views of the Arenal Volcano on clears days.
Butterfly garden: A sudy center and gardens ar full of many stunning butterfllies.
Sky Walk and Sky Trek: ziplines attached from one platfomr to another alow you to glide through the forest canopy with the use of special equipment.
Canopy tour: An opportunity to ascend into the forest canopy using modified techniques.
Orchid garden: More than 380 species are part of a unique research project.
