Welcome to the Peace lodge. The ultimate awakening of your senses. Here every magical sight, wondrous smell and sensual touch create irreplaceable memories of a journey you wish to take again and again.
Each and every room boasts a Jacuzzi tub and stone fireplace along with showers that transform into waterfalls with the turn of a knob. From the handcrafted canopy beds and love seats to the original stained glass and illustrated artwork you will understand the time and care put into the details of each accommodation. To insure your enjoyment of the cool mountain weather and view of the Poás Volcano, we built oversized balconies complete with rocking chairs, hammocks and custom Jacuzzi tubs. The experience continues with your choice of aromatherapy products and our selection of fine quality linens and robes.
All guests are welcome to enjoy the park before it opens and after it closes, the optimal bird and wildlife viewing times. Private walking tours are available, but we suggest booking these at the same time you reserve your room. Guests will be greeted in our new Reception with a postcard view of the La Paz River Valley. Complimentary internet access is available to all of our guests in the Reception as well as in the Vista Poas Dining Room
We recommend a three-night stay for guests looking to make the most of their Peace Lodge experience. Please keep in mind, as beautiful as we think our property is, we recommend no more than a four night stay, in order for you to explore other areas of Costa Rica. Guests arriving directly from the airport will awaken to the sound of the rainforest and waterfalls rather than the city noise of San Jose. The drive from the airport is approximately one hour and very scenic.
Guests can either dine on the patio viewing the Poás Volcano or have breakfast served in their room. For lunch guests can choose from our delicious buffet including rotisserie chicken, hot dogs, pizza and typical Costa Rican fare in the Colibries Restaurant, rated Four Forks by the ICT or enjoy a la carte waitress service in our Big Trout Bar. Each afternoon, guests are invited to the Big Trout Bar to watch the sunset and enjoy a la carte tapas and freshly made fruit drinks lakeside.
Dinner becomes an event in our intimate dining room and bar in the Vista Poás Restaurant. Guests can arrive early for a pre-dinner drink, a game of backgammon or read from our lending library. Our first-class wait staff will delight them with a delectable four-course meal and full bar. Guests can choose room service as well.
We offer three diverse day tours for guests of the Peace Lodge including Sarapiquí Canopy Adventure, Rafting on the Sarapiquí, and a Poás Volcano-Doka Estate Coffee Tour.
Located on the grounds of La Paz Waterfall Gardens Nature Park and one hour from the San Jose International Airport, Peace Lodge encompasses the rustic past and natural beauty of the rainforest and the essence of Costa Rica. Three fireplaces, King Size bed in Master, Queen & Twin in Loft, Two Jacuzzis, Waterfall Shower, Dining Area, Balcony.
The 1,200 square foot villa leaves nothing to be desired. First there are not one, not two, but three fireplaces to set the mood for this wonderland in the Cloud Forest. The master bedroom alone invokes thoughts of romance with its king size canopy bed set before a gas fireplace. The oversized master bathroom, complete with full Jacuzzi tub, fireplace (yes, fireplace) and waterfall shower will make you wonder why you aren't staying longer. The villa is complete with a luxurious living room with a two-story fireplace and a second floor loft with a queen size bed, a single bed and full bathroom. If that isn't enough there is a kitchenette and dining area with refrigerator, coffee
maker and microwave oven.
But, the villa would not be complete without a view of the La Paz River Valley and the Poás Volcano and how best to enjoy them but from the Jacuzzi tub on the balcony. But don't worry, when you've had enough 'nature' for the day, the villa is well equipped with a stereo system with speakers in every room and satellite TV in both the living area and master bedroom.

King Size Bed and Fireplace with a Jacuzzi on the Balcony.
This 650 square foot room has a king size canopy bed viewing a grand gas fireplace. The interior design of the room is only surpassed by the view from the balcony of the La Paz River Valley and the Poás Volcano. The best way to enjoy the view is from the Jacuzzi tub or swaying in the hammock on the balcony. The bathroom has an oversized mosaic tiled tub and elaborate waterfall shower. There is also satellite TV, stereo system, refrigerator, and coffee maker.
Waterfalls
As you wander the trails of La Paz Waterfall Gardens your senses will delight at the five waterfalls that line the trail. Originally, the only way one could view the falls was by literally hanging over the side of the mountain, looking through trees and ferns, not very inviting for picture taking. With the construction of Waterfall Gardens, guests are afforded views from platforms above, below and in front of the falls for great photo opportunities.
Butterflies
Our Butterfly Observatory allows over 20 different species of butterflies to soar freely while guests walk amid the natural habitat.
An on-site laboratory allows guests to follow the lifecycle and metamorphosis of these amazing creatures from egg to caterpillar to butterfly.
Hummingbirds
Our Hummingbird Garden attracts 24 different species of the birds, more species than any other in Costa Rica and quite possibly the world. Approximately 57 different hummingbirds have been reportedly seen in Costa Rica and it is possible to see over 40% of them here!
Snakes
Our museum quality Serpentarium exhibits 30 of the most beautiful and deadly snakes of Costa Rica. The exhibition puts you face to face with such famous snakes as the Bushmaster, Terciopelo, Green Vinesnake, and Golden Eyelash Viper to name just a few. We are also one of the few Serpentariums in the world to host the colorful but venomous sea snake found off the Pacific Coast of Central America.
Frogs
Our Frog Exhibit has received rave reviews from our visitors. Our mini-rainforest is enclosed but the frogs are not and you can see and photograph them in their natural habitat. Our collection includes the most famous frogs of the Central American Rainforest including the Red Eyed Tree Frog, the Flying Frog and various species of Poison Dart Frogs. Each night guests are invited to handle the friendly Leaf-frogs during their most active period. You won’t want to miss this truly un’frog’ettable experience.
Casita
Enjoy life as it was a hundred years ago in our Casita de la Paz. This unique reproduction was built using only the tools available to the average farmer a century ago. Step back in time and taste some fresh milk (right from the cow), take a ride in an ox-driven cart, sample freshly made tortillas and see how the Ticos lived and worked on rural farms.
Trout Lake
Fishing anyone? Cast a line in our two level Trout Lake. Catch dinner or just have some fun! The Big Trout Bar is a great place to have lunch, meet other guests over cocktails, relax in between hikes or exchange fish stories. The deck is a great place to lie in the sun or take a dip in one of our two Jacuzzis.
